EKATERINA ZHARINOVA - dancer and choreographer based in Ekaterinburg, Russia. Began dancing at age eight in Nizhnevartovsk, Western Siberia where she grew up. Moved to Ekaterinburg to study mathematics at the Urals State University, earned bachelor and master degree in math there. At the same time completed a three-year course at the experimental contemporary dance school of Ekaterinburg Contemporary Art Center and joined one of the strongest Russian contemporary dance companies, Provincial Dances Theater (choreographer Tatiana Baganova). Ekaterina performed around the world with the company for five seasons (2000-2005), also was lucky to work as a dancer with some other choreographers and perform at some improvisation projects from time to time. In 2006 Ekaterina participated at the American-Russian cultural exchange project initiated by GW University professor and choreographer Maida R. Withers and started to make choreography mostly solo and in duets. Her dance pieces were presented at many dance and theater festivals in Russia from Arkhangelsk to Cheboksary, and from Moscow to Tyumen. Ekaterina made two group pieces for students at the Dance Conservatory at Purchase, NY during her master program in choreography as a Fulbrighter in 2007-2008. Now she has special interest in cross-cultural and interdisciplinary art projects.
